Champ goalkeeper Alisson Becker, World Health Organization (WHO) Goodwill ambassador for health promotion, is kickstarting a brand-new worldwide fundraising campaign, entitled “Offer a Breath for Health,” driven by the WHO Structure and WHO. The initiative intends to support the shipment of oxygen and other life-saving supplies to health facilities treating clients with COVID-19 around the globe.
The very first donation to the “Give a Breath for Health” campaign, made by Alisson, will contribute with products to places in the Amazon and work together with the efforts of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), WHO local workplace for the Americas, in assistance of the Ministry of Health of Brazil and the State Health Department of Amazonas.

Part of Alisson’s contribution will be utilized to buy non-invasive ventilation masks for people hospitalized in remote parts of Brazil due to COVID-19. The products will be provided to 8 municipalities in the state of Amazonas: Coari, Humaitá, Itacoatiara, Lábrea Parintins, São Gabriel da Cachoeira, Tabatinga and Tefé.
The remainder of the contribution will be used to acquire equipment to fill oxygen cylinders in the municipality of Tabatinga, situated on the border with Colombia and Peru. These products will help resolve a logistical issue relating to the need to send out the cylinders to other areas for refilling.
“We are concerned about the situation in the Americas, where a surge in COVID-19 cases is causing some locations to experience extremely high occupancy rates at extensive care systems and putting health systems at danger of collapsing,” stated PAHO Director, Carissa F. Etienne.

Oxygen shipment is among the top priorities identified in WHO’s just recently launched Strategic Preparedness and Reaction Plan for 2021, for which the COVID-19 Uniformity Response Fund is looking for to raise funds from people, philanthropies, and corporates.
