A new study just came to a conclusion about a common but often misunderstood cooking oil. They say this one oil has puzzled scientists and consumers for ages, but it actually promotes cardiovascular health and lowers cholesterol. A group of nutritional researchers from Pennsylvania State University and Texas Tech University led a study that was just published in the journal Nutrition. The research team found that while soybean oil is the most widely consumed oil in both the US and worldwide, its dangers versus its benefits is a debate that has puzzled consumers and health professionals for years. This is because saturated fat is often viewed as a major cause of heart disease and death. However, a 2010 study found that 80% of countries had double the number of cases of coronary artery disease caused by insufficient omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (e.g. to shed some light on what they consider to be these common misconceptions , researchers conducted an analysis of previous studies, all of which looked at the effects of soybean oil on health, including issues related to cardiovascular disease prevention, blood lipid levels (cholesterol), inflammation and oxidative stress. Their results show That soybean oil, as a polyunsaturated fat, not only “does not influence inflammatory biomarkers and does not increase oxidative stress,” but that the cholesterol level in the blood is lowered when soybean oil replaces saturated fat.
